System overview
-Cerberus PACE is a network-based voice alarm and announcement system that complies with the requirements of EN 54-16 and allows for a decentralized and redundant system structure. The avoidance of a ‘Single Point of Failure’ is an important feature of the system design.
-A typical Cerberus PACE system is comprised of a digital audio matrix, amplifiers and operating terminals and microphones. Ethernet switches are used to link these components to a network via copper or fiber-optic cables.
-Cerberus PACE systems are configured in real-time using the system software PACE-Design.
-An EN 54-4-certified power supply guarantees uninterrupted operation and high system availability.
System Applications
Cerberus PACE was designed for the following applications:
- Alarms and evacuation
– Automatic activation of acoustic alarm and evacuation signals via connected hazard detection system, such as a fire detection system
– Manual activation of acoustic alarm and evacuation signals by trained personnel
– Live announcements by trained personnel
– Playback of previously recorded announcements
- Public address
– Background music
– Live announcements, with optional delay function
– Playback of previously recorded announcements
Cerberus PACE is an integrated system for both applications. It complies with the high standards for voice alarm systems set out in EN 54-16 while also meeting all requirements in terms of audio quality and convenience as you would expect from a traditional announcement system.
Cerberus PACE is scalable and therefore suitable for various application environments and sizes, such as:
- Small-scale applications such as schools, hotels and workshops
- Medium-scale applications such as industrial plants, office blocks or hospitals
- Large-scale applications with extremely stringent performance and availability requirements, such as airports, railway stations, stadiums or large shopping centers
‘Cerberus PACE’ systems can be scaled and expanded easily as required, in line with the installation site and requirements.
Component Application
Digital audio matrix
Cerberus PACE audio matrices process audio signals from the digital network, their own internal audio memory and the analog audio inputs. Analog signals are automatically converted into digital signals for further processing. Each audio signal is assigned to an audio channel. A Cerberus PACE audio matrix can manage up to 255 audio channels.
They are connected to the network via an Ethernet switch.
Ethernet switch
Using an Ethernet switch, the individual Cerberus PACE network components, such as audio matrices and call stations, can be connected to a network of up to 1500 network participants. Each Cerberus PACE network component features two independent network connections.
Combined with an Ethernet switch, these two network connections make it possible to form a fully redundant network.
With the help of an Ethernet switch, this enables the components to form a fully redundant network.
Media converter
The media converter converts a CAT5-based Ethernet section to fiber-optic.
Microphones
Cerberus PACE offers a range of call stations for various applications.
The alarm and business call station PT2001-A1 is designed for the following applications:
- Selecting speaker circuits
- Selecting an audio source
- Transmitting live announcements
- Controlling and monitoring the Cerberus PACE system
Up to four additional button modules can be fitted to extend the desk call station PT2001-A1 to a maximum of 115 buttons.
An optional key switch module enables all or individual call station buttons to be released or locked individually.
Up to three additional button modules can be fitted to extend the desk call station PT2009- A1 to a maximum of 32 buttons.
The network-based fire brigade call station PT2002-A1 is designed for use by the fire brigade or trained security personnel. The alarm and system status can be monitored.
- The integrated hand-held microphone can be used to make live announcements.
- The pre-configured alarm announcement buttons can be used to play stored alarm and evacuation announcements.
Live announcements or stored alarm and evacuation announcements can be played throughout the entire building or in single areas. The system interrupts all other audio outputs throughout the building or in the selected areas as soon as an alarm announcement button or the speak button of the hand-held microphone is pressed.
Operating terminals
The network-based operating terminals offer the following functions:
- Visual indicator for operational readiness
- Visual and acoustic message regarding the alarm and error states in the system
- Manual activation, silencing or resetting of an alarm
- Acknowledging error messages
Power amplifier
Power amplifiers PV200x amplify low-level audio signals to 100 V line voltage. The amplifiers use the latest digital technology for maximum effectiveness.
In the event of emergency power operation, the power amplifiers feature an integrated mains voltage supply and can be operated temporarily with 24 V batteries. If a fault is detected in the mains voltage supply, the power amplifier will automatically switch to the 24 V emergency batteries.
In emergency power operation, the amplifiers boast lower power consumption in standby mode.
The front of the unit is equipped with LEDs to indicate the operating condition as well as sound level controls. The electrical connections are located on the rear.
Each power amplifier is equipped with a maintenance-free fanless cooling system. The devices are also fitted with circuit breakers to provide protection against idling, short-circuit, overheating and power surges.
Power supply and batteries
The AC 230 V power supplies provide DC 24 V to all system components, except amplifiers, which have their own ‘AC 230 V’ power supply.
The devices ensure that the Cerberus PACE voice alarm system continues to operate without interruption if the ‘AC 230 V’ line voltage fails by providing a DC 24 V power supply from the emergency batteries.
The power supplies also charge, monitor and protect the power supplies of all emergency batteries. The batteries are charged in accordance with standard EN 54-4 based on their nominal capacity.
The power supplies are equipped with converters, overvoltage protection switches and battery deep discharge protection. The deep discharge protection ensures that the batteries never fully discharge in order to prevent battery damage.
The power supplies are suitable for use in a supply system with a nominal voltage of 230 V/50 Hz.
Fault messages are displayed visually on the front of the unit.
19” cabinets
The 19″ cabinets are a space-saving and safe storage solution for Cerberus PACE system components such as audio matrices, power amplifiers, Ethernet switches and the power supply.
Thanks to their modular design, the cabinets are flexible to use and can accommodate small-scale announcement and evacuation systems, such as those used in schools, as well
as larger-scale, more complex systems for airports or large office buildings.
The cabinets are pre-assembled to meet the installation requirements of Cerberus PACE system components, and provide optimum protection in challenging installation conditions. All cabinets are equipped with an active interior ventilation system that enables the system components to function optimally within the specified temperature ranges. This ensures that the system components continue to function reliably even under high load or at elevated exterior temperatures.
Cabinets with a pivot frame provide good access to the system components even where space is limited, making it easier to perform maintenance and servicing work on the system.
