Siemens Smart Infrastructure has updated its Desigo CC smart building management platform to version V5.0, which marks the software’s opening for more systems and devices. The platform now offers improved connectivity and support for more integrations, such as EV charging stations. In addition, it provides new functions for easier and more flexible usability. Desigo CC V5.0 further strengthens the level of cybersecurity protection and enables a wide variety of buildings to become future-proof and easy to manage.

Enhanced building management

Desigo CC V5.0 is now linked to the infrastructure around the building. For the first time, it offers the ability to monitor the energy consumption of electric vehicles, thanks to EV charging station integration via the OCPP protocol. In a user-friendly manner, Desigo CC represents the status information of the e-charging stations and provides dedicated graphic symbols for an easy visualization. Additionally, Desigo CC extends its cloud connectivity with direct access from the Siemens cloud application Building Operator through a secure internet tunnel to start the local Desigo CC Flex Client for advanced operation. With this easy cloud connection, operators can access their Desigo CC without the need for a VPN connection, anytime and from anywhere, allowing them to reduce their on-site presence.

User experience as key element  

Flex Client is the new HTML5 front-end of Desigo CC that can run on any operating system and web browser supporting HTML5 technology, and also mobile devices such as tablets – all without requiring installation steps. Flex Client has been designed to drastically improve the user experience and to make the monitoring of any building an easy task. With V5.0, Flex Client has been improved and now provides easier event handling, a sophisticated trending application and easy access to building schedules.

Security in mind  

To protect vulnerable building data even better, Desigo CC V5.0 is now IEC62443-3-3 SL2 compliant. With V5.0, new multifactor authentication and improved sign-on were implemented to simplify multi-user operation.

Improved operational efficiency 

Since the amount of KNX devices in buildings is increasing, Desigo CC supports them too. V5.0 allows the integration of additional KNX devices such as Tunable White DALI gateways.

With these new functionalities and enhancements, Desigo CC V5.0 is taking the next step to boost the digitalization of buildings and to contribute to making infrastructure smarter. It helps make buildings such as hospitals, commercial buildings, data centers, offices, hotels or airports future-proof and easy to manage.

Basic elements of the system:

 Solar panel

Solar panels are a set of solar cells, which when exposed to light, give a certain voltage at their ends, usually 12V, 24V, 48V, which can be used to charge batteries and later for dedicated use. Solar panels consist of solar cells. As one solar cell cannot produce enough electricity so they are interconnected in a solar panel.

Charging controller

The charge controller is an electronic device that regulates the battery charging voltage. When the voltage reaches 14.4V, charging is switched off, and when it drops to 13.4V due to consumption, it switches on charging again. In the case of high consumption when the battery voltage reaches a critical point of 10.5 V, the role of the controller is to turn off the consumers.

Solar batteries

Solar batteries give the system a long service life and are adapted to constant charging and discharging. Solar electrical systems used to provide electricity when there is currently no electricity grid contain batteries.

Inverters

Inverters are used to change the direct current (DC) current from the battery to the alternating current (AC) from the mains. Most solar systems produce direct current, some solar panels have an integrated inverter on the back of the board, the so-called AS module. If we plan to keep inverters on standby, we would use those that have low consumption in that state, and if we plan to use inverters we often choose those with high efficiency.

Our BLE readers can also act as a traditional card reader, meaning users can continue using MIFARE cards and slowly migrate to the Bluetooth virtual credentials at their own pace.

The end-user simply downloads the Vanderbilt Bluetooth app, and registers for a credential with the system administrator. Here, authorization can be granted both offline and online.

The system administrator then reviews and processes the request. This, in turn, sends the end-user a QR code that they save to their smartphone and link to their app to generate their credential. Then all the end-user has to do is use the credential through the app on their phone when approaching doors with Vanderbilt BLE readers to gain access.

Vanderbilt’s BLE readers aim to give a unique user experience with four identification modes for easy management: “Shake to Go”, “Show to Go”, “Manual Button Mode”, and “Hands Free Mode”. They’re also IP65 water-resistant with waterproof electronics, and easy to install and use with enrolment software in ACT Enterprise. The BLE readers and accessories work exclusively with the new release of ACT Enterprise 2.10.
